Year 2 Multiskills Festival at Prince Henrys Grammar School

On April 25th, Year 2 took part in a Multi-skills festival at Prince Henry’s Grammar School. We were one of four schools to participate in this extremely fun event and we were all fantastic! We did lots of running, jumping, balancing and throwing and we even came second overall! All of Year 2 had a super time competing in this competition.

Adel Primary's hockey team are on the road to victory !

On the 26th February Adel's year 5 and 6 hockey team participated in the Leeds Quick Sticks Tournament. Despite the cold conditions, the team remained undefeated, until they reached the semi-final where they were knocked out  1:0 by the opposition Allerton (who then went on to win) . The squad's effort was extraordinary; they demonstrated skill, determination and great team work !

Overall  Adel were placed 4th out of the 40 teams who entered from all over Leeds . They have now qualified for The West Yorkshire Youth Games in March. Well done Adel !

Year 5 Basketball Team

The year 5 Basketball team were successful in winning the Leeds North West Basketball Festival and have qualified for the final at Leeds Beckett University!

Adel Primary  School win county championship!

After winning the city final in November, the school football team went on to  participate in the county final at Soccer City in Huddersfield. They played 2 teams and manged to win both matches.

In the first game against Bywell (Huddersfield) despite being 1-0 down, the boys did not get despondent and managed to turn the game around with the final score being 2-1 to Adel.

They then went on to play Moorlands (Huddersfield), which proved to be a much tougher game. The tension was mounting and the adrenaline was rushing, (and that was just from the adults spectating) as the game went into 5 mins of extra time due to a 3-3 draw.  The team played skilfully and defended resolutely. They scored a magnificent goal in the final minute, which gave them a 4-3 win and a well-deserved victory.

Success for the school football team

Thursday 3rd December- Year 6 came 3rd at the north-west Leeds athletics final.

The children performed to an excellent standard and enjoyed the competition!

On 26th November our Year 6 athletics team won the heat against other local schools and are through to the final next week.

Congratulations to all our star triathletes who competed in the Brownlee Triathlon on Wednesday 23rd September 2015. We are so proud of your enthusiasm and determination. The children had to complete a swim, cycle and run to be awarded a medal and to meet Alistair and Jonny Brownlee. Congratulations to our fantastic teams who entered the Wake up and Shake up Festival held at Benton Park High School.

All the children performed beautifully and enjoyed their routine. The judges must have enjoyed it too as our Key Stage One team were awarded 1st place out of 7 schools and our Key Stage 2 team came 3rd out of 12 schools.

Sunday 21st June

After our day to remember in school, as part of our link with Leeds Rhinos Rugby Foundation, children and their families were invited to attend a Leeds Rhinos match at Headingley. Over 150 tickets were purchased, at a special discount price, by the pupils, families and staff of Adel Primary .

Luckily it was a sunny day and a real treat for all the dads on Father's Day. The Rhinos were on form as they claimed 32-20 victory over the opposition Hull FC.

The children were very excited to take part in a pitch parade at half time and have been  congratulated on their impeccable behaviour by Leeds Rhinos staff.

A Day to Remember - Friday 15th May

We had a fantastic day today because members of the Leeds Rhinos team came into our school to provide us with a day we'll never forget!

It started with a whole school assembly where we learnt about the importance of team work.  We know that we need lots of different attributes to become a valued member of a team.  They include:

Respect

Encouragment

Co-operation

Determination

And lots more!

We then watched a couple of videos to show how these attributes can make a successful team.

Even Ronnie the Rhino made an appearance, he slid on the floor, showed us his famous dance and even proposed to Miss Matthews! She said, 'Yes!"

After the assembly, some classes then participated in a fun rugby session while other classes took part in dance workshop. Look at the following photographs, we learnt so much and more importantly we had lots of fun!

During this half term, Year 4 have been extremely lucky to receive gymnastic teaching from a secondary school teacher from Prince Henry's. The focus has been gymnastic floor work using individual and paired balances, different movements and then using these to perform sequences!

Have a look at our photographs and there's even some video clips of the children's sequences!

A football team made up of players from Year 4 and 5 recently played in the Jim Charles Cup in Horsforth. After winning two and drawing two of their four group games the team made it through to the semi-finals but lost to the eventual winners of the competition.

Jim Charles Cup

The football team, made up of players from Years 5 & 6, recently played a friendly match against Adel St. John. Adel Primary scored within a minute of kick off, however, in a closely matched game Adel St. John fought back to take a 2-1 lead. Adel Primary searched for an equaliser and eventually it came towards the end to finish the match in a 2-2 draw.

Year 5 Basketball Tournament

10 pupils from year 5 took part in the Leeds North West School Sports Partnership Basketball  tournament. Having already qualified for the final, year 5 pupils played many matches against the 7 remaining primary schools, to battle it out to the winning spot.

It was an exciting event and the children did Adel Primary proud! The team worked extremely hard together with numerous baskets being scored by 5 different players. They won all 3 of their matches which resulted in a place in the final. They continued to play with skill and confidence, but unfortunately Adel St John beat them in the final minutes resulting in second place. Over 50 teams entered the competition originally - Well done Year 5 !

See below  for a summary of the match results .

Year 2 - Balanceability!!

The children in Year 2 have recently completed 'Balanceabilty' training.

About Balanceability

During 'Balanceability' sessions, children use ergonomic balance bikes; these are lightweight children's bikes with no pedals or stabilisers. The children run along whilst seated and push off the ground to create forward propulsion and dynamic balance.

It helps teach how to enhance physical literacy and master all aspects of static and dynamic balance.

All of the children had a wonderful morning, even though it was quite cold!
