Welcome to Year 1
Summer 2
This half term our theme is The Coast. We will learn about our seas and oceans through Geography and will be able to name the seas around the UK and the nearest oceans. Leading on from our fantastic time with the ducklings, we will be learning all about animals, how they grow and how we can categorise them. Our Writing will be linked to sustainability and we will be reading The Last Wolf by Mini Grey. In Art, we will be taking underwater art inspiration from J.V. Scarpace and in DT we will look to create underwater animals from felt, using joining skills. Our Class Newsletter gives more detail about this half term and what to expect.
Reading-
Your children will bring home a reading book appropriate to their Phonics level. This is to practice their decoding skills but we would encourage they read or are read to daily. This will broaden their vocabulary and enrich their experiences. They can read anything from comics to a bedtime story.
Important Information-
PE Days are Monday and Wednesday. The children will need to come into school in their PE kits on those days.
Children should make sure that they bring a water bottle in every day.
Homework-
Homework will consist of Spelling, Maths and Reading. Any set work will be given out on a Monday and returned on a Monday
Spelling- 5 words that are linked to the sounds and words we are learning in class.
Maths- Regularly logging into Numbots to work through story mode. Mathletics work will also be assigned sometimes but parents will be informed of this at the time.
