Severe weather (snow) procedures 2020/21

Severe weather procedures – 2020-/21

Due to current circumstances and the requirement to keep bubbles of children separate at all times, we have reviewed our procedures in the event of severe weather.

Whereas in previous years, on snowy days we have been able to mix year groups and move staff around to cover delayed staff travelling from further afield, this year we are not able to do so.

In the event of a heavy snow fall overnight we will do one of three things:

  1. Open as normal as we are confident the site will be safe and staff are able to get in safely and on time.

  1. Delay the start of the school day to allow the paths and carpark to be gritted and to allow staff additional time to arrive at work safely.

  1. Shut the school for the day and set remote learning for the children.

A delayed start to the school day would need to be staggered. Please see the table below for details of your family’s start time.

 Delayed start times:

9.50am

Year 6 children and any siblings in lower year groups

10.00am

Year 5 children and any siblings in lower year groups

10.10am

Year 4 children and any siblings in lower year groups

10.20am

Year 3 children and any siblings in lower year groups

10.30am

Year 2 children and any siblings in lower year groups

10.40am

Year 1 children and any siblings in lower year groups

10.50 am

Reception children and any siblings in lower year groups

11.00am

Nursery children with no siblings in other year groups.

For example:

  • A family with three children in school in Year 5, Year 2 and Nursery would arrive at school at 10am.
  • A family with two children in school in Year 2 and Reception would arrive at 10.30am

In the event of a delayed start ALL children should enter school through the main school entrance, where they will be escorted to their classrooms.  Families should ensure that they maintain a 2m distance from other families.

The end of day collections times would remain the same. As usual.

We always aim to open if at all possible and will endeavour to run a delayed start if the snowfall is significant and it is safe to do so. We will notify you by:

Please do not ring school if it is snowing. The above methods will be our primary methods of communicating any changes to the usual day-to-day arrival or departure procedures.
