Year 5 Archive: 2015-2016

Picture 1

Welcome to Year 5!

We spent a lovely afternoon on Thursday looking at Mondrian and his abstract style of painting. We then made our own out of natural materials in the nature conservation area.

This week Year 5 debated the question: "Should Year 5 leave Adel Primary to form its own independent school?"

In groups the children were randomly allocated 'Remain' or 'Leave' and then had to create a campaign to support the viewpoint.

Year 6 were invited into the class to listen to speeches, watch campaign videos and read the materials each campaign had created. They then voted on the issue.

The final results were: 23 votes to remain part of Adel Primary School. 6 votes to leave.

As Year 5 were the reigning attendance champions Bobby Bear, our attendance mascot, was allowed to come on the trip with us.

He certainly enjoyed himself!

Thank you to Liz and Amanda from Leeds Art Gallery for today's exciting printing workshop

Learning about being a writer with Andy Seed

Year 5 invited parents and carers to see what we have been learning about recently

In literacy Year 5 have started reading 'Street Child' by Berlie Doherty. They used ideas from the text to create a descriptive piece of writing set in Victorian London.

Click on the images below to see some examples of their work.

School Attendance Winners!

Well done to Year 5 who were the class with the highest attendance at school for a fourth week this year. Bobby Bear, our school attendance mascot, will be spending another week in Year 5 and by now he certainly feels at home.

Trip to the National Coal Mining Museum

Well done to Year 5 for achieving their 'Investors in Pupils' class target of keeping the classroom and cloakroom tidy. Their reward was watching a movie with popcorn!

Was your entry in the logo competition for our new Erasmus project shortlisted in the final?

Year 5 had a great morning at the Rugby World Cup Fanzone (despite England crashing out of the tournament only days before).

They played games to work on their rugby skills and also tag games that tested them mentally as well as physically.

Thank you to the parents/carers who attended the Year 5 information session.

For those unable to attend you can download a copy of the presentation below.
