Maths
We follow the White Rose Maths scheme of learning as a framework for breaking learning into small, manageable steps and supporting teachers with resources for this subject. The scheme is carefully sequenced and structured to ensure full coverage of the National Curriculum in logical, progressive stages. Additional learning activities from Nrich and the NCETM are used to enrich and complement the curriculum.
Our school uses the White Rose calculation policy to maintain a consistent approach to teaching the four operations over time. The White Rose approach is informed by leading mathematics research and practitioners worldwide and is grounded in the latest pedagogical principles.
Children learn through clear modelling and have opportunities to develop their understanding of mathematical concepts. Our approach combines concrete objects, visual representations, language, and numbers to help pupils explore and demonstrate ideas, enriching their learning and deepening understanding at all levels.
Reasoning and problem-solving are integral to the activities provided, encouraging mathematical thinking. Resources are readily available to support conceptual understanding and the development of skills appropriate for each year group. Pupils are given the time and opportunity to master concepts thoroughly, applying their knowledge creatively and in multiple contexts.
