Governance Arrangements at Adel Primary School

The Governing Body was reconstituted in line with National Government statutory requirements  in March 2015.

Our  Governing Body currently has 12 members: the Headteacher, two Parent Governors, one Staff Governor and seven Co-opted Governors (one of whom is a Teaching Assistant, the remainder are parents and non-parents). In addition there is one associate member.

There are four Full Governing Body meetings in an academic year: September, November, March and July. There are three sub-committees – ‘Resources’ (covering finance, staffing and the built environment), ‘Teaching and Learning’ and ‘Pupil Support’. Each sub-committee meets once per term and reports back to the next Full Governing Body meeting. Sub-committee members are listed below:

The Governing Body is committed to promoting high standards of educational achievement. It supports and challenges the Headteacher and school. The functions of the Governing Body are:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction

  • Holding the Headteacher to account for

    • the educational performance of the school and its pupils

    • the performance-management of staff

  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent

 

The minutes of each Full Governing Body meeting are available in paper format at the School Reception. Please do ask at the School Office if you wish to read them.
